The Executive

About me

My name is Gavin Slater, I set up New Paradigm Consulting in June 2013 after almost 20 years in Financial Services first in consulting at Arthur Andersen and later in hands-on roles in Risk Management at Deutsche Bank and then Barclays Bank.

I am extremely enthusiastic and passionate about what I do and for "doing things right".  I have a keen interest in technology which has helped me operate as a highly effectiuve interface between technology and Risk/Finance in banking.

I love to work with people and for many years ran the financial services training programmes globally for Arthur Andersen.  I believe teamwork is essential to instilling lasting change in an organisation which requires building teams and influencing decision-makers at all levels.

Most recently I was the Head of Wholesale Risk Infrastructure for Barclays Bank and prior to that Chief Operating Officer for Market Risk at Deutsche Bank.  My expertise includes:

MBA Warwick Business School, Warwick, UK (2001)

Chartered Accountant, South African Intitute of Chartered Accountants (1993)

Masters in Taxation, Rand Afrikaans University, Johannesburg, SA (1993)

Masters in Accounting, University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg, SA (1990)

Bachelor of Commerce, University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg, SA (1988)

  • Practical hands-on experience in running large Risk Reporting Teams (300 plus people) that use day to day Risk Infrastructure for all risk management information (from detailed risk manager level through to exco summary level)

  • Responsible for Risk Change Teams that work with Business and IT to build and enhance Risk Management Systems

  • Ran Regulatory Liaison function responsible for obtaining and maintaining advanced model approval status

  • Developed in-risk internal controls function supporting change to risk processes to meet higher internal and regulatory standards evolving post financial crisis.
